~ Bonnie 09 ~

This gorgeous lady is Bonnie.  She has an embarrassing secret that she's hiding from you.

Her life history is a bit sketchy, but somehow she ended up in a shelter, who adopted her into a home.  But there was a problem in Bonnie's new home, as they couldn't afford her care.  As a result, Bonnie's medical needs weren't being met, and she became heartworm positive as well as her having her embarrassing secret that must be quickly resolved.

Bonnie was surrendered to the same shelter that adopted her, but not to find a new home, rather, to be put to sleep.

Thankfully, the shelter staff contacted us for help with Bonnie's needs.

You see, Bonnie's secret is a large tumor that takes up quite a bit of space on the left side of her jaw line.  We won't know if it's cancerous until it is removed and sent to a pathologist for analysis.  We also won't know if Bonnie will lose any muscles that control her jaw, or otherwise cause her problems with eating, swallowing, drinking water, etc.  This can only be determined during and after her surgery, which is scheduled for Friday, June 19th.

This courageous lady could be facing a life altering surgery with a life ending result, if cancer cells are present.

We're hoping for the best with this precious soul.  She has the absolute best attitude and an ever wagging tail to help pull her through this tough time.  And if that wasn't enough, she will readily roll over for belly rubs whenever they are offered!

Please keep Bonnie in your thoughts as she faces her surgery and the pathology results.

We're here for Bonnie, and others like her, but can only continue to help them, if you share in their lives by giving.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for caring.

Update:

Bonnie has successfully completed surgery to remove the mass at her jaw line, as well as two others.  Cancer cells were found in two of the three tumors, however, it is believed the surgery removed all cancerous cells.  Unfortunately, Bonnie acquired aspiration pneumonia after surgery and has been on several medications to help her through a dangerous time.  Thankfully, she is now clear of the pneumonia.

In addition, one of her canine teeth was severely infected and required removal.  When the surgeon attempted to pull the tooth, her jaw bone broke.  This stops her from eating any dry dog food, hard treats, or chewing on Nylabones for at least 30 – 45 days, while the bone heals.  Of course, we had Bonnie on several pain relieving medications when she first came home, but she is now back to her active self, and wagging that tail of hers!

All dogs adopted by Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Inc. have had a full medical exam by one of our licensed Veterinarians, which includes testing (and treatment, if necessary) for Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, all necessary vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, dental cleaning as necessary, microchipping, registration of the microchip, and any other medical needs each particular dog may need.  Because we want to assure you of the health of our adoptable pets, we include a pre-paid 30 day health insurance policy with each adoption.  Copies of all available medical records are transferred to you when the adoption is finalized.

We prefer to adopt to families with past Scottie, Westie, Terrier (or similar) experience, but realize this isn’t always possible. We do not ship our pets. If you have that special place in your heart, and in your home, for a Scottie (or any of our other available rescue dogs), please visit us in Dallas for an in person meet & greet session with our available dogs.  If you have existing dogs, they must travel to Dallas with you, so we can be assured that they will be compatible with the new addition to your family.

Please contact us at Rescue@scottiekingdom.com  to receive an Adoption Application or for more information on our Adoption process.  Also, please take the time to visit our website www.scottiekingdom.com for additional information.

We sometimes receive several applications on the same dog. Our goal is to place the dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Please note:  Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis.  Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog.   We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs.

Thank you for your understanding, and for considering adoption!
